Kings Gameday - The Return of the Little King

This is how I like to remember Michael Cammalleri. Firing a shot... from one knee... and scoring for the Los Angeles Kings. (I know he is whiffing in the photo, but this is the best shot of Cammalleri from one knee on all of Google.)

This is how Michael Cammalleri looks now.

Camalleri is a true goal scorer. He can't skate that well, he's not overly aggressive... but he's got a killer shot and killer instinct for the net. And he loves shooting a one-timer from one knee. After his breakout season with the Kings in 2005-2006, he reminded me of this guy:

Both not the best skaters, but both great natural scorers.

I didn't want the Kings to trade Cammalleri. But something went on behind closed doors with the team that made Dean Lombardi want and need to trade Cammalleri. So over the summer, he was shipped to the Calgary Flames for a draft pick that the Kings used to pick up another potential stud defenseman. That still didn't make me happy about it.

It's a new chapter for Cammalleri in Calgary. There were concerns about him at the start, but now he seems to be fitting in. The Flames have won 5 in a row, with Cammalleri tallying 6 points in those games. The Flames are clicking on all cylinders and have an amazing goalie. Another team with an amazing goalie. Another team with an amazing goalie that the Kings will face tonight. All that said, at least some people are thinking the Kings might be streak breakers in tonight's game. Actually, a couple of people.

Favorite players get traded. That is the business of the NHL. I won't be booing Cammy tonight. Maybe Bertuzzi, but not Cammy. We miss ya Little Guy.
